The Conservative party has stepped up its local election campaign attacking Labour's record in control of councils.

Environment minister Paul Beresford launched a report today entitled 'Labour's Rotten Boroughs' which includes swipes at Croydon LBC and Lambeth, which is described as 'Liberal - Labour'.

The former leader of Wandsworth LBC said at the press conference:

'Labour in local government is littered with evidence of waste, incompetence and inefficiency. No matter what the expense, if there is a politically correct cause a Labour council will throw your money at it.'
