Tories switch Pickles and Spelman

Eric Pickles, the shadow communities secretary, is the new chairman of the Conservative Party after David Cameron's reshuffle of the Tory front bench.

Mr Pickles will be switching jobs with Caroline Spelman, who moves to shadow Communities and Local Government

David Cameron announced the following changes:

New to the Shadow Cabinet:

  • Kenneth Clarke becomes Shadow Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Secretary

  • Mark Francois becomes Shadow Minister for Europe

New Shadow Cabinet responsibilities:

  • Eric Pickles - Chairman of the Conservative Party

  • Caroline Spelman - Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary

  • Alan Duncan - Shadow Leader of the House of Commons

  • Chris Grayling - Shadow Home Secretary

  • Dominic Grieve - Shadow Justice Secretary

  • Nick Herbert - Shadow Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary

  • Theresa May - Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary and Shadow Minister for Women
