A property deal between the Conservative party and Westminster City Council which netted the Tory party £1.4m will not be investigated by the district auditor, the Audit Commission said yesterday, the Guardian reports (p7).

The deal revealed in the Daily Mirror yesterday, involved selling and re-selling the freehold of Conservative Central Office in an 18-month period in the early 80's, falls outside the period which the auditor can investigate.
