There is an increase in interest in industrial heritage, with the top 20 visitor attractions in Scotland securing more than 1.7 million visits a year, according to a Scottish Tourism Co-ordinating Group report.

Launching the report,'Industrial Heritage and Tourism in Scotland', Scottish tourism minister George Kynoch said: 'It is particularly pleasing that this report shows increased interest in our industrial heritage'.

But he said 'a need to provide a coherent framework for development was identified, and this report aims to guide those looking to invest in the industry so they fill gaps in the market rather than duplicate existing industrial heritage attractions.'
