Tower Hamlets LBC chief executive Sylvie Pierce has praised ousted social services director Jim Lim for his professional conduct and commitment to the job. The East London Advertiser (p21) reports her commenting on his 'ability and competence', despite the fact that she sacked him less than a month ago. She said that his 'energy and enthusiasm' would be missed. It appears that a mix-up led to Lim losing his job.
Pierce said that problems had arisen because of 'flaws in the recruitment process'. She is quoted: 'The council has expressed its profound regret for the way Jim's professional reputation has been affected in the accompanying unhelpful publicity. The council would like to express its gratitude for Jim's leadership of social services over a difficult period.
'I know Jim leaves with mixed feelings. The council has done all it is able to assist Jim through the difficult times, not of his making, which he has endured over the last few months.' But one councillor blasted: 'They've walked all over him.'
