After May's local elections, Tower Hamlets LBC will, unofficially, cease to exist, The Independent reports (p17).

The council has decided to change the name to the East End, the paper's diary column reports. Council telephonists already answer to the name and a new East End logo will be unveiled in July.

Tower Hamlets was created by the government in 1965 when three districts were amalgamated.
