City of London town crier Peter Moore (54) was praised for his bravery and awarded £150 by a judge yesterday after chasing and detaining two thieves until police arrived, despite being assaulted, the Daily Telegraph reports (p7).

Mr Moore trapped the thieves after pursuing them on Tower Hill in the red robe and tricorn he wears when working for the Tower Hill Pageant. John Jarret (32) and Susan Cork (27) were found guilty of obtaining property by deception and common assault, and will be sentenced later.
