Charities and companies training the unemployed are to challenge the government over the running of the training and enterprise councils, reports the Financial Times (p7).

The providers, which depend on Tecs for the distribution of £1.8bn of government funds, will tell the Commons employment committee that the 82 councils are operating a monopoly.

More than 90 providers are owed about £2m following the bankruptcy of South Thames Tec, a private company.
