An Industrial tribunal finding released today criticises Hackney BC's dismissal of building manager John Austine.

Mr Austine was sacked because a contract had been wrongly awarded through error, an action the tribunal said was an over reaction to the situation.

The tribunal said Mr Austine had been an 'exemplary employee' with 18 years service in the building division.

The tribunal has invited Hackney and Mr Austine to agree appropriate compensation.

It is the sixth finding of unfair dismissal in the last nine months involving trade unions that has gone against the council.
