A commemoration for a council officer shot dead during a planning dispute was included in a national campaign against workplace dangers, reported the Newcastle Journal (28 April, p12)

Public service union Unison has commissioned a conservation project in Derwentside in memory of Derwentside Council planning officer Harry Collinson, killed by a gunman in 1991.

Trade union officials also laid a wreath at the health and Safety Executive's office in London to mark Workers' Memorial Day on Tuesday.
