A breakaway group of Labour councillors in Corby called off its legal action against the Labour Party yesterday after a truce was agreed in a row about election leaflets, reports The Times (p9).

Counsel for 'Corby First Labour' told the court that the official Labour Party leaflets suggested that the deselected councillors had 'been guilty of something little short of corruption'.

They strongly denied impropriety but had decided to drop the case because nothing could be done to recall the leaflets and because the borough's returning officer had already referred them to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Counsel for The Labour Party said the leaflet that had caused offence were being superseded by new ones that didn't mention the breakaway group, reports The Times.
