The Turner Society yesterday called for the view immortalised in a painting by Turner of Cockermouth Castle in 1809 to be saved, the Times reports (p3). The paper says that plans by the Labour controlled Allerdale DC to redevelop the meadows with a recreational area and car park would spoil the view.

The fate of the meadow will be decided at a council meeting this week, the Times adds.
