Labour's parliamentary wing has opted to allow MPs opposed to keeping Cleveland CC to abstain when the issue comes up for debate in the House of Commons on Wednesday, The Guardian reports (p6).

The party will vote to keep the council on a two not a three-line whip, to allow MPs who want the council abolished to abstain.
