Ulster Unionist Party MPs are pushing for more powers to be devolved to councils in Northern Ireland.

The move comes as LGC begins an analysis of local government in Northern Ireland.

At a Grand Orange Lodge meeting on Saturday Martin Smyth MP (South Belfast) said: 'We demand the restoration of some of [our historic] freedoms, especially that of accountable and representative democracy at local and regional level.'

This week LGC publishes the first of five articles on Northern Ireland, explaining its role in fermenting anger at Unionist abuses of power and how it works today.
