The treasury has refused to confirm a statement by environment secretary John Prescott that it would allow money raised from new transport charges to be spent on improving public transport and infrastructure, reports The Financial Times (p14).
Treasury minister Dawn Primarolo said the outcome of discussions between her department and Mr Prescott would be announced when the white paper on integrated transport is published.
