Unison has written to the district auditor about the sorry state of affairs at Lincolnshire CC (the letter is available here).

'Members of staff are contacting us and expressing their dismay at what is happening,' said Lincolnshire branch secretary John Sharman. 'We have written to the district auditor to add our voice to those calling for an inquiry into this appalling mess.

'Two serious concerns stand out from the messages coming in from our members. The first is that people will now be afraid to speak out against anything wrong that they see happening. If David Bowles can be got rid of for whistleblowing what protection can there be for anyone else?

'The second is the half million pounds that it's costing to push out the chief executive: it's desperately needed for services to the public. We want to know - who is responsible for getting us into a situation where that much public money has been spent on forcing out a highly respected chief officer?'
