Bill Morris, general secretary of the Transport and General Workers Union, has warned the Labour party against 'grinding the workers into the dust' by squeezing public sector pay, the Sunday Telegraph claimed (p1).

Mr Morris said good public services could only be achieved by treating people fairly - not by funding any pay rises by job cuts in the public sector.

Shadow chancellor Gordon Brown is today expected to warn public sector workers that the government's tough line on pay will continue under Labour.
