Despite pledges from leaders of Nalgo, Nupe and Cohse that merger would be achieved without sackings, the Observer refers to fears voiced by one senior full-time official that the union does not have enough money to keep its promise. It adds that Unison currently has about 1200 full-time staff servicing 1.4m members.
