Unison is joining up with a tenants' organisation to campaign against Southwark LBC's plans to transfer its entire housing stock to registered social landlords.

The union and Southwark Group of Tenants Organisations will tomorrow co-host a conference on proposals to transfer 50,000 homes. They plan to lobby local MPs later in July.

Unison says the conference will inform tenants on the implications of stock transfer and advise them on campaigning locally.

Southwark Unison branch secretary Denise Whillier said: 'The council's proposals have not been thought out and have caused concern among tenants who do not believe block transfer provides solutions to the problems caused by years of under-investment.'

The council said a full consultation exercise was under way and it would be premature to judge the response.
