Unison will step up its policy of 'maximum resistance to privatisation' under a proposal going to its local government conference on Monday.

An early motion from the service group executive attacks the best value Bill for its 'provider neutral' stance, its failure to incorporate equalities, and the emphasis on competition as the key test.

It calls for more recognition of workforce issues, saying the single status deal should be 'the basis for best value terms and conditions'.

Members will be asked to back a campaign opposing best value where plans have not involved staff, and lobby to keep services in-house.
