The UK will see a revival of town centre prosperity and traditional high street shopping by the start of the next century, Marks & Spencers chairman Sir Richard Greenbury said yesterday, reports the Financial Times (p13).

He said the DoE's new policy putting a break on out of town developments would help high street stores realise they could compete, because they could offer shopping that was not available out of town.

Town centres, in addition to their diversity of shops could also exploit their heritage to provide leisure trips combining sight-seeing with shopping and eating out he said.
