The Urban Regeneration Agency must forge links with local authorities if it is to succeed, Jeremy Beecham, the chairman of the AMA said today.

'It is essential that the solution to the problems of individual cities is locally derived and implemented,' said Mr Beecham.

'It is disappointing that the draft guidance for the URA fails to recognise that democratically elected and accountable local government should take a lead role with the agency.'
