Speaking ahead of the sustainable communities summit, Liberal Democrat
shadow to the deputy prime minister Edward Davey said:
'Prescott's summit is in danger of being an expensive talking shop that
yet again produces no real changes for our communities.
'If we are want to have more energy efficient homes, if we want more
sustainable land use, and if we want to have more vibrant communities,
this government has got to completely change its approach.
'Where are their commitments to making homes environmentally
sustainable? Where are their commitments to opening up green spaces in
our cities and towns? When will they change the absurd VAT regime that
encourages green field development? And when will they do something to
protect the post offices, pharmacies and local facilities that
communities really need?
'There have been too many summits, reports and taskforces. We need
action from Mr Prescott, not more of his usual hot air.'
