The US state of Massachusetts has become involved in an international trade dispute by boycotting firms doing business with Burma, in protest at that regime's human rights abuses, reports the Independent (p9).

The paper reports that the Massachusetts delegation to the US congress delivered a letter to the EU chastising it for lodging a complaint about the boycott with the Clinton administration.
