Tenants on an Enfield LBC housing estate have called in a squad of Guardian Angels to protect it from a gang of arsonists.

The Evening Standard reports that the residents of the Shepcot estate are claiming neither Enfield LBC nor the police has offered sufficient protection from the vandals who have set fire to lifts and rubbish chutes repeatedly for the past six months.

A spokesman for Enfield said that plans to install£55,000 worth of CCTV cameras were being put before the director of housing. Plans to make the dustbin chutes more secure are also under way.

'We are very keen to resolve this problem as soon as possible within the budget we can afford,' he said.
