An £8 million initiative to build hundreds of 'Affordable' village houses was announced yesterday by the Rural Housing Trust and Co-op Bank, the Daily Telegraph reports (p20).

The cash will fund the trust's programme of providing homes for people who would otherwise find it too costly to live in the countryside.

It will be paid out over two years through rural housing associations to provide houses for people who want to rent or buy in partnership deals. The programme plans to complete 600 new homes a year.
