Grimethorpe is promoting itself as a tourist attraction after being used as the setting for the new film, Brassed Off, reported the Daily Telegraph (9 November p4).

The Grimethorpe regeneration partnership has launched a £30m 10 year programme to create new jobs, homes and road improvements, backed by a government pledge of £1m.

Barnsley MBC leader Jeff Ennis told the paper: 'Some parts of Grimethorpe may look derelict now but we're doing our best to improve life in the village.'
