Sunderland City Council is one of four councils across Tyne & Wear piloting early voting at this year's local elections.

The initiative, which is being repeated in choice locations across the country, will give people the chance to vote up to a week early in a bid to make democracy more convenient.

Meanwhile, elections experts Colin Rallings and Michael Thrasher have set out which 20 councils are most at risk of changing hands on 4 May in LGC this week.

They have highlighted three unitaries, four cities, seven London boroughs and six districts which will be under the microscope come election night.
