Waltham Forest LBC has appointed Oldham MBC chief Andrew Kilburn as its chief executive.

Mr Kilburn’s appointment, which is subject to confirmation at the next full council meeting, comes 14 months after predecessor Jacquie Dean stepped down.

Mr Kilburn, whose formal start date has yet to be agreed, spent nearly eight years at the healm of Oldham, after joining from Redcar & Cleveland BC .

Waltham Forest is poised to axe up to 300 backroom posts in a bid to save£24m over three years (LGC, 7 February 2008).

Delight all around

Mr Kilburn said: “I was involved in the Improvement & Development Agency peer review of Waltham Forest last year and was greatly impressed by the level of commitment, care and concern exhibited by everyone I met.”

In a joint statement, the leaders of all three political parties represented on the council, leader Clyde Loakes (Lab), Keith Rayner (Lib Dem) and Matt Davis (Con), said: “Andrew has huge experience in local government and we are delighted that he will be joining us.”
