The chief education inspector for Wandsworth LBC has spoken out in favour of selection saying the comprehensive system 'led to the worst form of selection because it was done under the spurious guise of equal opportunities.'

In a letter to the Independent John Burchill says selection is a 'natural tendency' which 'leads to proper opportunities and will lead to a better match between pupils' aptitude and the curriculum.'
