Wandworth LBC has confirmed that the deaths of a young swan and other wildlife on Wandsworth Common in the summer may have been killed by wild mink, according to a report in the Independent on Saturday December 18, p7.

The article said council officers have made repeated efforts to trap the animal but so far it has evaded them. Fishermen have seen it on an island. They fear the mink will cause havoc next spring when ducks and other wildfowl start mating.

An unnamed councillor is quoted as being deeply concerned at the possible devastation but a council spokesman said the animal had not been officially identified as wild mink although it was mink-like.
