A review of war pensioners' benefit rights called for in a Parliamentary early day motion has received cross-party backing.

Currently, councils can choose whether to take war pensions for veterans and widows into account when calculating council tax and housing benefit.

Three-quarters of councils now ignore war pensions, but the Royal British Legion says some veterans and widows can lose all of their pension in tax and rent. The legion has advised some of its members not to claim war pensions.
