A convicted paedophile has criticised Stirling Council for issuing a warning to schools that he was living in their area, the Herald reports (p2).
Alan Christie received a 12-month sentence last year after admitting lewd and libidinous conduct towards a four-year-old girl.
The council alert, which did not name Christie, was intended as confidential guidance for the head teachers of the 12 schools in the Cornton/Raploch area of Stirling.
Christie found out about the warning after a leak to the media.
It is understood that discreet alerts have been routinely issued by Stirling and other Scottish councils in the past. Yesterday's events are expected to fuel the public debate over naming sex offenders, at a time when the government's proposal for a paedophile register looks certain to become law.
