Councils in Warwickshire have launched a campaign to retain the status quo in the area's local government structure, with review by the Local Government Commission underway, the Birmingham Post reports (p5).

Warwickshire CC and its five districts say if the area were to be split into two or three bodies, some function such as fire or police would have to continue on a county wide basis with shared responsibility.

Warwickshire Trading Standards Officer Noel Hunter is reported as saying if his service was divided between smaller units it would lose its power to challenge big businesses and enforce European standards.
