The Yorkshire Post reports (p13) the Welsh Development Agency has been caught 'red-handed' trying to poach successful firms from Yorkshire and Humberside, according to Yorkshire's own development agency.

The Yorkshire & Humberside Development Agency discovered Rural Wales, part of the WDA, had invited local companies to a meeting in Garford, near Leeds, to hear 'how we can help to improve substantially your company's competitiveness, reduce overheads and develop your business'.

YHDA chief executive John Siddall said he was aware of the WDA's activities and deplored it as a misuse of taxpayers' money. The YHDA is contract the region's MPs over the Welsh approach.

The WDA denies any wrong-doing, saying the presentation was aimed only at those companies planning to expand.
