Shadow chancellor Gordon Brown has dismissed Tory assertions that a Welsh Assembly would cost as much as£15 million a year to run, the Daily Post reported (9 January p5).

Moreover, Brown claimed that an assembly would actually save taxpayers money, because it would enable cutbacks in quangos. Wales' top 10 quangos alone cost just under£52 million a year to run.
