The Assembly of Welsh counties today welcomed the delay to the local government reorganisation of Wales as time to be spent reconsidering proposals which depend too heavily on joint arrangements between authorities to deliver services.

But Chairman of the AWC campaign Committee, Russell Goodway, said 'What the delay will not do is make the reorganisation any cheaper. The £200 or more million it will cost remains a price which people in Wales can ill afford. The government.. should abandon the proposals altogether.'
