A clampdown on the dangerous children's craze of 'lift surfing' in flats in Wales has been a succes, the Western Mail reports (p3).

The paper says that the Health and Safety Executive has warned that children are often getting into lift shafts to ride and up and down of lift cars.

In Gwent steps have been taken to stamp out the craze and in Torfaen, says the paper, council officials say security has been increased with more security at lift access points, regular inspections, and the securing of entry hatches with modern emergency release keys.
