A Welsh council leader has been accused of sexism after claiming female councillors are unable to stand up to senior officers.

Ceredigon CC leader Dai Lloyd Evans suggested during a radio interview that recent problems at neighbouring Carmarthenshire CC over the appointment of its education director might be explained by the presence of four women in the nine-strong cabinet.

'Maybe women do not fight back as hard as men against some of the council officers sometimes,' he later told LGC.
