The Welsh Office is considering a£170m private finance initiative scheme which could see the Welsh assembly housed in Bute Square, central Cardiff, reports The Guardian (p19).

The Citylink Consortium is already building the giant square in the red light area of the town, and wants to expand the project to encompass the assembly. This would take the entire cost of the project to around£350m, including the PFI element.

The assembly may also be built as part of the ongoing Cardiff Bay development, reports The Guardian.
