The Welsh schools' exam results published today show a bigger improvement than in England, although Welsh schools still lag behind on average, says the Financial Times (p11).

The figures for all schools in Wales show that on average 41% of 15-year-olds achieved five GCSE passes at at least grade C. This has narrowed the performance gap with England, where the proportion gaining these passes rose only fractionally from 43.3% to 43.5%.
