Welsh secretary John Redwood is expected to rule on whether another out-of-town food store should be built in Merthyr Tydfil, the Western Mail reports (p8).

Merthyr BC has recommended planning consent be given to build the store, but because that represents a departure from its planning strategy the decision has to go to the Welsh Office for approval.

Merthyr BC's decision has created concern among some councillors about the detrimental effect the development would have on the town's centre.
