The European Union-funded Market Towns Initiative has awarded five towns in rural Wales regeneration grant aid, reports The Times (p41).

Abercrave, Cardigan, Dolgellau, Llanfair Caereinion and Rhyader will each receive up to£90,000 to establish job creation projects in craft industries, tourism and sport sectors, amongst others.

25 towns competing for the first round of grant aid, the paper reports, and the five winners will all employ a development office to bring their projects to fruition.
