West Country trading standards officials have started taking French lessons in their lunchbreaks as part of their crackdown against Euro dealers who break rules, the Western Morning News reports.

Some ten officials at County Hall, Exeter, including the chief trading standards officer Steve Butterworth are spending one hour a week learning the language from a local teacher.

Mr Butterworth told the paper a good knowledge of French is becoming increasingly important because of the ever closer links with France.
