A bid for an independent, integrated local enterprise company has been made by West Lothian Council to the Scottish Office.

The Herald reports (p3) that the controversial move to break away from Lothian and Edinburgh Enterprise Ltd would be the first time such a bid has been made to break up the existing enterprise network in Scotland.

West Lothian strategic services committee chair Tony Kinder said: 'We want independence for West Lothian becuae we have a different focus here than Edinburgh and local business leaders have made it clear they support such a move.'
