WEST LOTHIAN DC REFUSE TO BACK DOWN OVER DAIRY TESTS

The owners of a food dairy at the centre of a fatal food poisoning outbreak have attacked West Lothian DC for continuing to keep the plant closed during further checks, the Scotsman reports (p3).

The plant's owners say the only reason for additional testing is because the council failed to carry out a proper analysis in the first place.

West Lothian DC's environmental health convenor James McGinley defended the decision on the grounds of calming 'deep public concern and anguish'.

He said: 'The tests are a 'belt and braces' job. I know it costs money to run the production line for tests, but I am not going to make a snap decision on the basis of two tests', the paper reports.
