West Lothian Council will give all its secondary schools units to deal with disruptive pupils, reports The Scotsman (p4).

The council is the first in Scotland to take the step. The£1.8m scheme will allow for students with emotional or disciplinary problems to be taught separately.

The major teaching unions have agreed with the project. Council corporate manager for education services, Roger Stewart, said the aim was to reduce the number of expulsions and allow for gradual reintegration of problem pupils.
