The Conservative chair of the environment and planning committee at Westminster City Council has denied claims of a cover up in environmental health services.

An internal audit report found the council was not carrying out inspections in 3,000 food premises because they were missing from its records. Labour environment and planning spokeswoman Jill

Selbourne accused the council of covering up the crisis.

Committee chair Alan Bradley said the report was the work of the council's internal audit team. 'It was discussed at committee in January and is a public document,' he said.
