Westminster BC is considering making it an offence to feed pigeons in Trafalgar Square, reports the London Evening Standard (p3).

The council is considering ways to reduce the numbers of birds visiting the square because it views them as a health problem.

Jonathan Lord, head of the councils environmental sub-committee, told the Standard: 'We have received a steady stream of complaints from residents about feral pigeons.

'We just can't have them here in ridiculous numbers. We want to contain the problem.'
