The Society of Local Authority Chief Executives has appointed Rose Wheeler as its first full-time director.

She will take up the £40,000 post in October. She succeeds Don Latham, who resigned from the £30,000 a year part-time director's post in May because of the move of SOLACE's offices to Merseyside.

Ms Wheeler joined the Office for Public Management this year after working with Wakefield, Kirklees and Rotherham MBCs.

SOLACE also announced this week that it had added 250 extra members since it voted in April to allow as many as 5,000 senior officers to join the society.
